- Short haired, smooth, coarse, hound like coat
Beagles come in a variety of colours but common colouring groups are:
1. Tri-Coloured Group- black and tan with pure white.
2. The Red/Orange/Lemon White group- different degrees of colouring from dark rich, red through to orange and lemon
3. The pied group- this group has the widest range of colouring from:
- Badger pied- mixture of black, silver and fawn, giving the coat a “badger” appearance
- Hare pied-fewer black hairs with more tan colouring, not in patches but mixed together giving the coat a “hare” look
- Lemon pied- this beagle has more red colouring with cream or lemon. Colours all mixed together to give a blended look
4. The mottles-are various colourings from tan-mottled, red-mottled, tri-coloured mottled and blue-molted. Interesting fact about the mottled group is that it is an inherited colouring. You can tell if the puppy is mottled by the rings of coloured pigmentation on his paws.
